Finding My Voice: A Musical Journey in 2022

In 2022, I rediscovered the joy of expressing myself through music. For me, music is more than just notes or words; it's an experience that connects me deeply with my emotions and my listeners. I decided to pick up the pen and write about my life and my experiences again after a 12-year hiatus (a story for another time), not just as a choice but as a calling.

After a few nearly tragic experiences in 2022, Music became my refuge and outlet, allowing me to pour my heart into every beat and lyric. I had so much baggage I didn’t know I was carrying on my shoulders for so many years, and it was heavy! I had reached a point of no return, and the only thing I could do that was positive and wouldn't land me in jail or worse was to write a song about it.

My musical journey has been a journey of self-discovery, a way to confront and celebrate the different facets of who I am. Things like school and social media have filtered and limited our ability to express ourselves and tell our stories because they may not be “cool,” “fancy,” or “interesting” enough to everyone else. That doesn’t mean our stories don't matter.

I am a prime example of refusing to allow others to define who I am. The more music I create, the more profound the connection becomes with myself and my listeners. The journey is not just about applause or recognition but the joyful I feeling I get when I let it all out on the table, no secrets. Each song I make is a chapter of my story, a testament to music's healing and uplifting power.

Despite the challenges I experienced to get to this moment, I cannot help but be grateful for everything that happened to me because now I have quite a unique story to tell my listeners. What I’ve been most proud of since starting the process in 2022 is finally being able to release my new EP, “Finally Above Water,” a year and four months after I bought an in-home studio and started laying down my ideas on tracks. I created a legacy for myself and my family. I created memories that will live on past my existence, all while making the only music I want and expect to be played at my homegoing celebration, whenever that’ll be. Lol. If you haven't already, check out my new EP, “Finally Above Water”, you won’t be disappointed.

Love y’all,

Brookklin
